The temporary taxi rank facility in Bridge City has long been a high-traffic area, with thousands of commuters passing through daily. Due to the sheer volume of activity, the area was previously not receiving adequate servicing, leading to concerns about cleanliness. However, through proactive engagement with the Durban Solid Waste (DSW) department, the Management Association (MA) team has successfully secured dedicated cleaning personnel to ensure this vital space remains clean and well-maintained.
Dedicated Cleaning Efforts
To tackle the challenges of maintaining cleanliness in this busy area, a team of DSW personnel now works eight-hour shifts from 06h00 to 18h00, ensuring ongoing waste collection and area upkeep throughout the day. This dedicated servicing means litter and waste are managed proactively, improving hygiene and the overall appearance of the taxi rank.
Additionally, to ensure fair working conditions, team members who work on Sundays receive two days off in compensation for their overtime, maintaining a balanced and effective workforce.
Visible Progress and Continued Efforts
The impact of these enhanced cleaning efforts is already evident, with significant improvements in waste management and overall cleanliness. Images taken during recent cleaning operations highlight the positive change, showing a cleaner and more organised space for commuters and transport operators.

Looking Ahead
Maintaining public spaces in a busy precinct like Bridge City requires ongoing collaboration and commitment. The MA team will continue to monitor the taxi rank’s cleanliness and work closely with DSW to ensure that these improvements are sustained.
We appreciate the collective efforts of DSW and the cleaning teams in helping us achieve this milestone, contributing to a cleaner and more welcoming Bridge City for all.
