It was an active month for eThekwini Municipality in the Bridge City precinct, with multiple departments deployed to address infrastructure, cleanliness and service delivery needs.
Electrical Repairs & Infrastructure Improvements
This month, eTM-contracted electrical teams carried out critical repairs across the precinct, including successfully restoring power on Nkunzana Road, bringing one of the cameras back online and strengthening surveillance coverage. Additional electrical repairs were undertaken at the corner of Bhejane Road and Nogwaja Street, where a damaged cable was repaired to restore reliable service.
A major highlight for the month was the deployment of electricity teams to address the long-outstanding replacement of damaged streetlight poles. While on site, teams also replaced faulty light fittings and installed new bulbs supplied by the Bridge City Management Association. As a result, 115 of 151 streetlights are now operational, and over 80% of the precinct lighting functionality has been achieved
Sewer Overflow Fixed and Extensive Cleaning
eThekwini Water and Sanitation (DWS) teams responded to reports of an overflowing sewer, unblocked the system, and restored normal flow. Additionally, the DSW team was deployed to the precinctβs intermodal facility and to Portions 125 and 126 following engagement between the BCMA and key stakeholders. Teams carried out extensive cleaning operations, removing large volumes of litter and debris. The remaining waste was cleared later in the week, significantly improving these areas.
Aligned Environmental Maintenance
Municipal contractors commenced grass cutting on open stands within the precinct. Work began with on-site coordination alongside the Management Association to ensure alignment with precinct standards and maintenance expectations.
The consistent presence of multiple eTM departments on site throughout the month reflects a strong, collaborative working relationship between BCMA and the Municipality. These coordinated interventions – electrical, sanitation, cleaning, and environmental maintenance – demonstrate the impact of responsive service delivery in maintaining a safe, functional, and well-managed precinct.
