Clearing the way for rainy season readiness

Cleaning, Greening and Maintenance

As the precinct transitions into the rainy season, Bridge City Management Association (BCMA) teams have intensified cleaning and greening efforts to prepare public spaces and infrastructure for changing weather conditions.

Proactive seasonal maintenance

Green Africa focused on seasonal readiness, prioritising the clearing of stormwater inlets across the precinct. This task is especially critical as high-impact β€œ1-in-10-year” rainfall events have become increasingly common, requiring improved resilience in stormwater systems to avoid flooding and blockages.

Scheduled grass cutting and verge maintenance continued throughout September, with additional attention given to litter collection, resulting in 650 bags of refuse cleared from public spaces β€” a clear sign of on-the-ground commitment to urban management.

Lighting functionality remains stable

Infrastructure performance remained consistent throughout the month, particularly in relation to streetlighting. Of the 159 lights across the precinct, 129 are currently operational, maintaining a stable functionality rate of 81%. The BCMA continues to escalate faults with eThekwini Municipality and remains committed to improving lighting levels in key public areas over the coming months.
