In May we had no incidents reported in the private space. In the public space, however, two notable recorded incidents occurred on the same day at different times. In both the muggings, the victims had their cell phones stolen along with other small items, the incidents were recorded on the periphery of the precinct at the Besters intersection. Our reaction team attended to both incidents to assist the victims and provide assistance with getting to the nearest police station.
In an attempt to deter any further mugging incidents in the area, our team has taken the following proactive steps
- Bought up one of the foot patrollers and posted them in the area.
- Our reaction vehicle is to make more patrols and stand down in the area to increase visibility
- SAPS has been made aware of the increase in muggings in the area, we requested regular presence to occur in the area to further deter any further mugging incidents.
