Infrastructure upkeep in Bridge City: Pothole repairs and sewer assessments

Ensuring well-maintained infrastructure is essential for the safety, functionality, and sustainability of Bridge City. Over the past few weeks, eThekwini Municipality (eTM) and the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) have undertaken several key maintenance and assessment initiatives to enhance the precinct’s infrastructure.

Pothole Repairs and Tar Replacement

eTM teams have been busy addressing the issue of potholes across Bridge City, filling them to ensure smooth and safe travel for all road users. In addition, damaged tar has been replaced in specific areas to maintain the integrity of our roads and pedestrian pathways. These efforts help prevent further deterioration and improve accessibility throughout the precinct.

Grass Cutting on Overgrown Sites

As part of routine maintenance, eTM contractors have continued their grass cutting efforts on overgrown sites within the precinct. These activities are crucial for maintaining visibility, reducing safety hazards, and ensuring that public spaces remain neat and well-kept for all users.

Comprehensive Sewer Infrastructure Assessment

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has begun a detailed assessment of the sewer infrastructure in the precinct. This process started with jetting the sewer lines from the entrance of Bridge City and will extend to the area near the Piesangs River, where a sewer pipe has been identified as damaged.

Once this section is cleared, DWS will conduct a CCTV inspection of the entire sewer line. This inspection will help identify the root causes of frequent blockages and determine what repairs or upgrades are necessary to improve the functionality of the sewer system. These proactive measures are critical for maintaining sanitation standards and preventing potential environmental impacts.

Looking Ahead

The recent efforts by eThekwini Municipality and DWS highlight the importance of ongoing infrastructure maintenance and proactive assessments. By addressing potholes, replacing damaged tar, cutting overgrown grass, and thoroughly inspecting the sewer system, Bridge City is taking significant steps to ensure a safer and more sustainable environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.

We look forward to sharing updates as these projects progress and as new initiatives are introduced to enhance the precinct’s infrastructure further.
